Water main break on University Endowment Lands (UEL)

UPDATE (October 15, 2020): Water main repaired on University Endowment Lands

Energy & Water Services’ operators are currently responding to a water main break on the 300 mm 16th avenue water main on University Endowment Lands. The 300 mm water main is one of two water mains that provide water to the UBC campus. Operators have isolated the 16th avenue transmission main and opened up the Wesbrook and University Boulevard water main to ensure water is distributed uninterrupted to buildings on campus.

What to expect:

  • Changes in the flow of water within UBC’s water distribution system may cause temporary turbidity (discolouration and/or cloudiness) in the water. These changes may be noticeable in some areas of the building, however, running the water for 1-5 minutes before use should return the water to normal and clear the cloudiness. The water remains safe to use and drink.
  • Building occupants may experience low water pressure in their building.
  • Research equipment such as boosters may not operate as expected due to the low water pressure.

Energy & Water Services will continue to monitor the water quality and will provide further information should the situation change. For questions or concerns, please contact your zone Facilities Manager.
